City of Geraldton is looking for a sister city

Australia and China have enjoyed diplomatic relations for the past 37 years, with the friendship between our two nations being very strong.  Many Australian cities have embraced this friendship, developing sister city relationships with cities in China. Several cities in Western Australia, including the state’s capital of Perth, currently have strong and successful sister city relationships.  This includes cities in China such as Jiaxing and Jinan which has promoted cultural exchange and economic benefits to all parties involved.

China is currently Wester Australia’s largest trading partner, with Geraldton Port in particular linking the whole of the Mid West region to Chinese Ports.  This connection will only strengthen with the development of the Oakajee Port and Rail system, including development of a deep water port and increased mining production and export capabilities.

Geraldton is looking to furthering its diplomatic commitment to China, through the development of a sister city relationship.  We believe that such a relationship can provide extensive mutual benefits through cultural, economic, education and technological exchange.  We would greatly appreciate your consideration in formally developing a sister city relationship with the City of Geraldton-Greenough.
