The Belt and Road Initiative
The Belt and Road Initiative is a development strategy proposed by China's paramount leader Xi Jinping that focuses on connectivity and cooperation between Eurasian countries, primarily the People's Republic of China (PRC), the land-based Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) and the oceangoing Maritime Silk Road (MSR). In the first half of 2018, China’s total import reached 1 trillion US dollars, increased by 25.7%, under the Belt and Road Initiative. The total nonfinancial foreign direct investment reached 49 billion US dollars and total value of overseas mergers and acquisitions reached 66 billion US dollars.
