Summit Message of Welcome from Mayor of Ashfield

        On behalf of Ashfield Council I would like to welcome you to, and congratulate you on, this wonderful 2011 Australasia-China Sister Cities Summit & Australasia-China Business Summit.
        The Ashfield local government area, of which I am Mayor, benefits greatly from a vibrant Chinese business and community sector. It is fair to say we have an international reputation as a locality distinctive for its Chinese specialty shops. But perhaps more importantly Ashfield is considered home and ‘community’ to a very large Chinese born population.
        Ashfield prides itself on the inter-cultural harmony that exists within our boundaries. We take every opportunity to share and exchange information about aspects of Chinese and Australian cultures.
        Ashfield Council supports the principles of Friendship City arrangements around the world. I hope this Summit will prove a valuable opportunity for you also to exchange information & foster strong links between Australia and China. May the Summit be a fruitful and enjoyable event for everyone involved.
